CITROËN'S NEWEST SAFETY FEATURE: A BETTER DRIVER

The Citroën Xsara 1.8 and 2.0 litre now come with a new safety feature:
A better driver.

The French car maker is including in a special security package a safety driving course with the respected Jim Murcott Advanced Driving Centre with every Citroën Xsara 1.8 and 2.0 litre sold. In addition the no-cost package also adds a front passenger air bag and ABS anti-lock brakes, bringing the saving to more than $2000.

"At the end of the day, it must be remembered that despite all the safety features fitted to new cars, the main cause of injuries and deaths on the road is driver error," says Miles Williams, General Manager for Citroën in Australia. "For this reason we have not only added two proven life saving features to the Xsara, we have also included a driving course to help ensure that they remain two of the least used features in the Citroën Xsara."

The Citroën Xsara, with the stability of front wheel drive, its superb handling and road holding, responsive steering and safety cell with energy absorbing impact zones, is already one of the safest cars on the road. However, Citroën has recognized that regardless of the safety features of the car, the driver has the biggest influence on how safe a car really is. Between 95 to 95 per cent of all accidents are caused by one sort of driver error or another, yet as little as 10 per cent of drivers understand the role they play in road safety.

It has been proven around the world that when driving training is introduced, both practical skills and theoretical knowledge, accident rates drop and lives are saved. Citroën Xsara owners who attend the courses run by Jim Murcott's Advanced Driving Centres throughout Australia will learn both how to drive their new Citroën's in a safe and responsible manner and what motivates other drivers to behave the way they do so that the Citroën driver may avoid dangerous situations.

"Road safety is one of the most complex issues facing society," says Miles Williams. "It is not an area that may be addressed by a few simple rules. All areas of road safety must be addressed and that includes manufacturers helping the owners of their cars to be safer and more responsible on the road."
