NEW CITROËN BERLINGO NOW IN AUSTRALIA
Citroën has launched the Berlingo
multi-purpose commercial and lifestyle vehicle in Australia, offering a unique
level of interior space, versatility and an 800 kg payload, combined with
French style and Citroën's renowned ride quality, handling and road
holding.
Prices will be announced shortly, but
Citroën Australia have revealed that the Berlingo will be priced below
$18,000. This puts it in direct contention with both its small box van and
small car derived competitors, even though it offers more interior space, a
larger payload and fully integrated styling.
"The response to the initial
demonstrations of Berlingo in Australia have been extremely positive," says
Miles Williams, General Manager of Citroën in Australia. "Every
time we have displayed the test vehicle, we have had people offering to buy it
on the spot. This is because Berlingo offers car-like styling, performance,
combined with Citroën's benchmark ride and driving quality, yet it is a
purpose designed commercial and multi-purpose vehicle. It is not a compromised
car, or a white box with wheels.
"The Berlingo is another clever
Citroën that combines real driving ability with a vehicle that is purpose
designed without compromise to meet every demand expected of
it."
The Citroën Berlingo
is powered by a 1.4 litre 58 kW engine matched to a five-speed gearbox. Its
load area has a volume of three cubic metres, with a maximum load length of 2.1
metres, a width of 1.6 metres and a height of 1.2 metres. It is accessed
through rear barn style doors that open to either 90· or 180·
and, with a door opening width of 1.2 metres, standard one metre pallets may be
loaded directly through the rear doors.
As a multi purpose vehicle, the Berlingo is no
less impressive. Fitted with rear windows and a folding rear bench seat, the
Berlingo will carry five people in comfort and still have ability to carry all
the equipment required for recreation or business applications.
