PROGRAMMED SELF-STEERING REAR
SUSPENSION
On a
conventional rear suspension system the lateral forces experienced during
cornering cause the rear wheels to steer slightly in the opposite direction to
the front wheels, causing a destabilising effect on the car. The
Citroën Xantia and the Citroën Xsara feature rear axle design which
acts to make the rear wheels steer slightly in the same direction as the front
wheels. This movement, up to a possible 3°, gives a significant improvement
in roadholding and handling. The programmed self-steer rear
suspension is featured on all Citroën Xantia models, and also on the
exciting new Citroën Xsara, giving all of these vehicles a clear
competitive advantage in the area of roadholding.
This rear suspension technology
is the subject of a Citroën patent.
