CITROEN AT THE GENEVA INTERNATIONAL MOTOR SHOW
The New Citroen Berlingo is
launched
Citroen has launched the new Berlingo car and van, now equipped with
a sliding side door. Developed in response to demand from customers, this major
upgrade underlines the versatile, practical and user friendly qualities of the
Berlingo concept.
The Citroen Xsara HDi launched
At the Geneva International Motor Show Citroen
presented for the first time the new Citroen Xsara HDi in sedan, Coupe and
wagon variants. The new version of Citroen's top-selling small car is equipped
with a high pressure direct injection diesel engine using common rail
technology, making it the most sophisticated oil-burner in its class. The HDi
engine boosts fuel economy by 21 per cent and cuts exhaust emissions by an
equally impressive 20 per cent. With a capacity of 1997 cc the engine produces
66 kW at 4000 rpm, while more than 185 Nm of torque is available from 1500 to
3250 rpm, a combination that provides excellent driving characteristics. The
Xsara HDi offers an staggering average fuel consumption of just 5.2 litres per
100 km.
Production version of the Citroën
Xsara Picasso
Geneva saw the production
version of the Citroën Xsara Picasso unveiled. The Xsara-based people
mover was first seen at the Paris Motor Show last year and is now due to go
into production late this year. Expect an Australian launch in
2000.
Citroen C3 on display
Following its debut at the Paris Motor Show, Citroen has confirmed
that the innovative small car, the Citroen C3 will go into production, with a
projected launch date of 2001. It is a practical, friendly and versatile small
car that combines Citroen's renowned flair with new technology
features.
The Citroen Dynavolt
The Geneva Motor Show saw the display of a car
that could be ideal for Australian conditions.
The Berlingo Dynavolt uses an
electric motor and batteries around town to reduce pollution and noise to an
absolute minimum, but out on the open road, to give it range performance beyond
the ability of electric propulsion, it uses an LPG-powered engine. It also
represents another facet of Citroen's rapidly developing LPG programme which
sees dual fuel versions of the Xantia, Xsara, Berlingo and Saxo now available
in France.
