XSARA DRIVES
CITROEN AHEAD IN 1998
The Citroen Xsara - launched in Australia
earlier this year - is driving Citroen sales ahead around the world in 1998,
with total sales for the French marque up from 454,186 in the first nine months
of 1997 to 516,376 this year, an increase of 13.7 per cent.
The increase in Australian Citroen sales is
even more pronounced, where sales have climbed during the first nine months of
1998 by 28 per cent, again driven by the Citroen Xsara. Since the new
hatchback's Australian launch, demand for the French car maker's products has
been running at three times the level for last year.
The Xsara has taken its sales so far this year
to 213,949, an impressive 84.5 per cent ahead of the combined sales of the
Xsara and its predecessor in 1997 of 115,958. In September, alone, Citroen sold
65,204 cars, nearly 6,000 up on the same month last year. The increase in sales
enabled Citroen to take a larger share of the total sales of the PSA Group and
places Citroen comfortably ahead of brands such as BMW, Saab, Volvo and
Audi.
"These figures are particularly
revealing," explains Miles Willaims, General Manager for Citroen in Australia.
"They reveal the growing success of providing Citroen with a new clear position
in the market, a range of dynamic new products and worldwide support for
customers."
